The Gym Leader Challenge

So you want to test your mettle against the best do you. Show the Pocket Region that you and your Pokemon have what it takes to be Masters. Then look no further for the Gym League Challenge is here. So grab the best of your fighters and step forth onto the stadiums, show your power and prove you have what it takes to be a be a Pokemon Master.

How To Take Part/Rules

To start you must own a Gym Pass to take part, consider this your official Pocket League registration. These are easily purchasable at the Beach-side Market for Poke or Points and covers the following.
  • It facilitates the use and access of restricted transport and areas. Mainly for personal story use but on occasion allows for special Pokemon in the Survival Area or Challengers on the Tidal.
  • Grants you your Pocket Region Badge case, and upon completion of the Gym Challenge allows you to open a Gym if you choose.
  • Gym Leaders do not gain levels for their Pokemon used in entries. However the participating member earns a Gym Level Bonus for each time the Gym Leaders Pokemon is used.
    • 1 Level for Head Shot, 2 for Partial, 3 for Full Body
    • In the Case of Written Entries it's 2 Additional Level for every 200 Words
    • This Bonus is accumulated once and must be split across your Pokemon, not applied to each separately.

Once that’s done you simply need to initiate a challenge with your first Gym Leader. Please note you may challenge 1 Gym Leader each month. In addition gym challenges both Moderator and Member run are judged more harshly than S.S. Tidal (npc) challenges.

The Official Run through the Gyms, like the games, must be done in order. This means starting at Ashton and working your way up.

  • Remember to respect your opponents, we don’t want to see all your entries being your Pokemon simply sweeping the floor with the opponent.
  • This isn’t to say we will go out of your way to fail you but as there is no deadline for these entries we would like to see proper consideration given to your opponents as well. Hard work goes behind each mod and member created gym.
  • Creative use of strategy, terrain, moves, and so on is encouraged.
  • Entries, like the S.S. Tidal, must showcase each of the opponents Pokemon, there is no deadline to complete these battles so make use of the time.

Once you have completed a Gym Battle simply comment on the Gym Battle Journal with the following form. A moderator will check over the entry and evaluate it. Each gym gives an assortment of special themed prizes that can only be earned once per challenger.

Opening a Gym

Now you may be wondering, alright but what do I do after the Gym League Challenge is over. Well there is several things I think the most requested question is “How Do I Open My Own Gym”

To start you must first complete the Gym Leader Challenge. This entails battling through and earning badges from each of Pocket Island's Gym Leaders who will test various aspects required to be a good trainer.
  • Gym Challenges are fought in order with increasing difficulty the higher the ranks you go. You need to start at the ground level and work your way upwards.
  • Upon defeating all the Gym Leaders your Gym Pass is upgraded allowing you to open if you chose a Basic Gym (2 Pokemon - No Legends - Standard Battle)
  • Defeating S.S. Tidal Leaders and other Trainer Gym Leaders in the Pocket Region grants badges which are used as currency to upgrade your gym.

Now I am sure going through all the trouble only to get a Basic Gym is a bit of a downer, but don’t look at it that way. Instead look at it as a starting point for both yourself and those around you. To upgrade a Gym both you and other members will need to challenge each other, earn those badges and climb that ladder. It facilitates the gyms being there for more than to just look pretty.

Once you have met the basic requirements and want to create a gym fill out the following.

Gym Creation Form
User Name:
Gym Name:
Badge Name:
Trainer Name(s):

Gym Type:
Pokemon Info 1: (Species/Type/Nature/Favoured Move)
Pokemon Info 2: (Species/Type/Nature/Favoured Move)

Other: Any additional information you would like us to include about your Gym, Leader, or Pokemon.

As a Reminder, Please Note:
All Gyms start with the following.
  • Standard Battle System
  • Max Two First Form Pokemon (No Legends/UB’s)
  • 1 Type Specialisation
  • 1 Thematic Prize
  • Basic Stadium (No Special Terrain or Equipment)

Gym Upgrades

As stated before, you are not stuck with a basic gym forever. Each badge you earn counts as currency towards upgrades. Consider it a further proof of your strength and mettle in battle. The following upgrades can be bought with badges. A separate journal will be posted for these purchases.

Pokemon Upgrades
  • Additional Pokemon (Max of 6 per battle but you can change roster/have different teams)
  • Evolutions/Stronger Pokemon (Your Pokemon Battle Stats differ from their normal stats. A gym is to test trainers so a level 1 gym is meant to be a basic challenge.)
  • Allow Legends and UB’s (Requires completing the Elite Challenge and defeating the Champion.)
Gym Upgrades
  • Place a marker on the Map
  • Add Additional Types to your Gym Specialization
  • Upgrade your Stadium from Basic
  • Elemental Terrains
  • Enhancements such as lighting, music, pools, tricks, etc
  • Adding Challenges other than Battles (Think Orange Islands)
Prize Upgrades
  • Basic Prize =  You Start with “One” of the Following
    • Shinee Charm (Thematic to Gym)
    • Mewtaited Recipe (Thematic to Gym)
    • Faulty Splicer (First Form/No Legends)
    • Cracked Type Gem (1 Type/Matches Gym Type)
    • Egg (First form - 1 Trait - Thematic to Gym)
  • Add Additional Prize to Maximum of 4
  • Upgrade Splicer (2nd Form) + (3rd Form) + (Mega Form)
  • Each upgrade must be bought separately and in order.
  • Upgrade Type Gem (Dual Type)
  • Upgrade Egg (2nd Form) + (3rd Form) + (Mega Form)
  • Allow Legendary Prizes
  • Allow UB Prizes

I'm curious whats going on with gyms. I've been wanting to start the gym challenge for a while now as I can do that at my own pace, however beyond the first three Gyms everything else is still a Work in Progress. At this point it's been almost a year since they have gone up. Curious if they are still planned to be a thing or if they have been forgotten or scrapped. ^^;
